Mobile recycling may get government boost
Companies around the UK could soon be forced to recycle all their old mobile phones and other electrical equipment.
Lord Henley made the proposal earlier this week for government to help certain parts of the business world with the green disposal of waste.
Mike Webster, spokesman for Waste Watch, says this could be a particularly effective way of improving the country's green record.
"Responsibility deals can be a very good way of getting a certain industry or sector to get their house in order - as long as it triggers action," he notes.
However, the plans have not gone down as well with every organisation, such as the Federation of Small Businesses which warned many small firms will require loans or cash grants if they are to be in a position to recycle.
Lord Henley said his scheme would, at least initially, be a voluntary one that businesses could sign up to at their discretion.
