Mobile recycling could be an option to purchase the Nexus One

09/02/2010

The Google Nexus One is set to be made available to customers in the UK on a Vodafone contract and the announcement of a new dedicated helpline could encourage consumers to recycle their old mobile in order to get it.

Google's handset had previously suffered the unusual problem of not having a dedicated phone line to resolve problems from users.

Customers in the US had previously been told to contact the handset manufacturer HTC or the T-Mobile network if they had problems with the device - which is available to purchase online.

Google said: "Our approach with our new consumer channel is to learn fast and continue to improve and we have, therefore, also been developing our capabilities to provide a number from Google for live phone support for the Nexus One."

Conrad Longmore, editor at Mobile Gazette, recently said that selling handsets SIM-free is not a threat to Google especially as many carriers now offer SIM-only contracts where the customer can use whatever unlocked phone they like.
