Mobile Recycling Can Benefit Other Countries

The number of people recycling their old mobile phone is on the increase, it has been suggested.

Selling an old mobile phone with Mazuma can help to protect the environment and provide you with cash which could go towards purchasing a new handset.

Research from Ovum found the UK is now recycling around double the number of mobile phones that it was two years ago - with a total of eight million devices in 2009.

"Even though you may no longer have a use for your unwanted phone, there is still a high demand for good quality handsets - re-use is the best form of recycling," said Mike Wilson, manager of mobiles and broadband at MoneySupermarket.com.

He added mobile phones can prove to be a vital addition to developing nations because of the lack of a landline service.

In Western Europe last year more than a quarter - 26.5 per cent - of recycled handsets were from the UK out of a total figure of 30.2 million.
