Mobile Phone Recycling In The Spotlight In Devon

Residents of Devon have been urged to recycle mobilephones as part of a new week-long event to encourage green activities.

Recycle Week, organised by Recycle Now and supported by Devon County Council, will see many people recycling their mobile phones in order to strip them of their precious materials and avoid sending them to landfill.

The government's Waste and Resources Action Programme will be helping the county's schools take part in the national event, offering rewards worth up to £1,000 for those institutions that recycle the most, the Mid Devon Star reported.

Roger Croad, councillor for environmental and regulatory services, told the newspaper: "Knowing that doing something small can make a real difference to our community means we can all feel we are doing something to improve our environment and make Devon greener."

Schools will be able to receive cash or garden centre vouchers for recycling mobile phones, which will help them invest in more green activities and initiatives.
