Mobile Phone Recycling Important, Council Says

Mobile phone recycling could be boosted during a new green event which will take place in Devon.

Recycle Now's Recycle Week, a new annual event happening between June 21st and 27th, is to be taken up by Torridge County Council, which will encourage people to hand in their old handsets, instead of throwing them into the bin.

The week will focus on recycling small electrical items - such as mobile phones - and will raise awareness of the benefits of avoiding sending potentially harmful materials to land fill.

Adam Symons, councillor for Torridge District Council and lead member for waste and recycling, said: "These items contain a lot of precious materials, as well as some hazardous ones. Help us by sorting your items and taking them to your nearest recycling centre."

Recycle Now encourages people to reduce the amount of waste they produce, re-use items when possible and send recyclable rubbish to the necessary outlets to be processed.
