Mobile Phone Recycling Could Allow For An Upgrade

Workers would live elsewhere in the UK if it meant having access to fast reliable internet, according to new research, so recycling your mobile phone for a web-enabled handset might help you stay connected.

The study, carried out by mobile phone network Orange, found that given the chance employees would head to the countryside rather than carrying out the daily commute in the place that they currently live.

Michael Phillips, product director at broadbandchoices.co.uk, said: "I think with the internet we are less dependent on urban areas but I don't think it is ever going to be a replacement for face to face contact."

He added that it was a nice idea "to all head to the hills" but that spending time on the phone or emailing people is never going to be as efficient as being next to them.

The Orange map showed that if everywhere in the UK had access to a reliable and fast internet connection Scotland's population would increase by 58 per cent.
