Level of un-recycled waste "is criminal"

17/08/2009

More needs to be done to encourage mobile recycling as well as the reusing of other materials, it has been advised.

Commenting on the implementation of a new initiative in the south of England, councillor Rob Stanton, executive member for children's services at Wokingham Borough Council, said it was vital to get behind such plans.

He said a recent revamp of services in his area meant that sending items to landfill is expensive for the taxpayer and by recycling money can be generated to put to good use elsewhere.

"You really do have to bang loud about recycling but the amount of money thrown into the ground because of waste is pretty criminal," Mr Stanton added.

His comments follow the reopening of eco-friendly waste management plants at Longshot Lane in Bracknell and Smallmead in Reading.

Of course, recycling mobile phones for cash is something individuals can do to generate funds for any number of things.
