"Everyone's a winner" with mobile recycling
There is no apparent downside to mobile phone recycling, according to one environmental expert.
Paula Owen, an Energy Saving Trust energy doctor, was quoted by the News of the World as saying selling phones to recycling companies benefits all concerned.
"By recycling your mobile phone you will be helping to protect the environment by minimising your waste - it's quick and you can earn some money too," she remarked. "Everyone's a winner."
The News of the World stated that it is believed as many as 80 million mobile phones could be lying around houses in the UK unused.
It pointed out that this could be a potential gold mine, with some handsets being bought for upwards of £200 by recycling websites.
One such company, Mazuma Mobile, will pay £108 for working versions of the LG KC910 Renoir, £85 for a Blackberry Storm 9500 and £40 for a Sony Ericsson W960i.
Recycle your old mobile phone to cash.
