Consumers told: Recycle your old mobile phone
Consumers have been urged to recycle their old phone, something that Mazuma could help them to do.
According to research by ICM on behalf of Consumer Focus, there are 85 million used mobile phones in the UK.
The survey also found that an estimated 11 per cent of respondents have five or more old handsets lying around their home.
Money-savvy people may wish to send the handsets to Mazuma for cash that could then be used to purchase a new mobile.
Mike Webster, spokesperson for Wastewatch, said: "You'd be silly not to get them recycled. For a start you can get paid for it which is always an encouragement."
He added that if mobile phones are sent to landfill they can leak "various nasty and unpleasant chemicals from their batteries".
Recent research from Ovum estimated that more than a quarter - 26.5 per cent - of the 30.2 million devices recycled in western Europe last year were from the UK.
