Businesses could recycle old mobile phones
Businesses can make cuts in carbon emissions without the need for having to spend a significant amount of money, it has been advised.
The Environment Agency referred in particular to public sector offices, restaurants, hotels and shops as organisations that have a large potential to reduce their emissions.
One way that companies can become greener without spending money is by recycling old mobile phones with Mazuma.
Mazuma offers free postage, as well as a free data delete tool, while payment for old handsets is given within 48 hours.
In April new legislation known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme comes in that requires certain firms to become more energy efficient.
"Our research shows that around a quarter of the emissions from these sectors could be cut at no overall cost. In most cases the savings on energy bills will outweigh the costs of the energy saving measures," said Tony Grayling, head of climate change and sustainable development at the Environment Agency.
