Apps increase as people look to 'sell my mobile'
A study has shown that more and more people could sell their mobile phones in favour of smartphones as the number of apps downloaded in the last week of December reached more than a billion for the first time.
According to analytics firm Flurry, over 1.2 billion apps were downloaded in the last week of December, which has been attributed to the fact that a number of people will have been bought new mobile phones for Christmas.
The US was responsible for nearly half the downloads (509 million), while the 81 million seen in the UK was the third most in the world behind China.
"While [Apple] iOS and [Google] Android growth continues to amaze, the market is still by all measures relatively nascent," the company added in a statement on their website.
Google confirmed that more than 3.7 million Android devices were activated over the Christmas weekend and Flurry estimates that seven million new handsets were activated.
