A tonne of mobile phones recycled in three months
A mobile phone recycling initiative taking place in Bulgaria has collected almost one tonne of handsets since it was launched towards the end of last year.
Global, which is organising the campaign, claimed that 930 kilograms have been sent in for recycling so far as consumers look to help out the environment, the Sofia Echo reports.
The initiative began in November 2008 and is part of an overall green strategy being followed by the mobile phone company, which will see it implement new eco-friendly paper policies from the start of next month.
Dimitris Lioupis, head marketing officer at the firm, stated that he expects recycling rates to surpass targets.
Global is one of a number of mobile companies around the world that have been employing green strategies in recent months.
Finland's cellphone manufacturing giant Nokia has a number of initiatives in place, while Sprint has also been organising a recycling campaign in the US.
