Consumer group offers energy saving ideas
Energy expert Robert Hammond of Consumer Focus has offered up advice to consumers looking to save money on their heating bills.
Mr Hammond suggested that switching off heating entirely or putting it on too low are not the answer as this can have an effect on people's health.
Instead, consumers should consider keeping their houses at a constant temperature - rather than switching the heating off and on again - and ensure they check their bills carefully to make sure there have not been any mistakes, he said.
Vigilance is the key to saving money, Mr Hammond remarked, adding: "Make sure you are not paying on some wild estimation that has gone through the roof."
Away from heating, people can also reduce energy bills by switching electrical items off as opposed to leaving them on standby, be advised.
More than five million people in the UK are currently living in fuel poverty, according to statistics from National Energy Action.
