Tablet use doubled on Christmas Day
More and more people seem to have received tablets for Christmas as research showed that use of the devices doubled over the 25th and 26th December, meaning an increasing number of people could be looking to recycle mobile phones in the new year.
A joint study conducted by eDigitalResearch and the Internet Marketing in Retail Group found that eight per cent of people logging on to the internet over the two days were using tablets.
Head of research at eDigitalResearch Derek Eccleston said the results show that internet access through tablets and smartphones is now becoming a vital part of everyday life.
"Many see logging on during Christmas and Boxing Day as the norm, especially when trying out new gadgets and Christmas gifts. The rise in tablet use is an indication for what's to come in 2012," he added.
Senior vice-president of mobile at Google Andy Rubin took to Twitter at the end of last month to reveal that 3.7 million Android services alone were activated on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
