Smartphone graphics to improve with ARM update
ARM has announced the launch of its second generation Mail-T600 Series graphics processing units, which will improve user experience for both tablets and mobile phones.
Each of the products feature a 50 per cent performance increase and are the first to include Adaptive Scalable Texture Compression, according to ARM.
The first of these products are set to be rolled out by September 2013.
UK's Imagination is ARM's main competitor and recent research from Jon Peddie Research claimed that the UK firm's technology is used in half of all graphics chips to make smartphones last year.
General manager of the media processing division at ARM Pete Hutton said people expect higher standards of visual computing and he is confident this new update will provide that.
"GPU compute enables this as it increases the range of functions mobile devices can perform within the available battery life," he was quoted as saying.
