Samsung to launch new Note phablet
Fresh from the punishment it received in the US for infringing Apple design patents, Samsung is set to launch a new phone-cum-tablet (phablet) in Berlin today (August 29th).
It will launch the second generation of its popular Galaxy Note in one of Europe's biggest electronics show in Berlin, Reuters news agency reports.
Last Friday, a US Federal Court found Samsung guilty of infringing a number of design patents of Apple's and was ordered to pay the American firm $1.05 billion (£665 million).
The Galaxy Note phablet is Samsung's second most popular smartphone after the Galaxy S but it is not included in the list of devices that could potentially be banned in the US.
Analyst at NH Investment & Securities Lee Sun-tae said the launch will be used to try and downplay some of the furore after the court case.
"There won't be huge innovative changes in design, but the Note 2 will feature quite a few improvements and enable Samsung to carry on its strong sales momentum in the category," he continued.
