Nexus One may encourage consumers to trade in their mobile
The imminent launch of Google's first mobile phone Nexus One may encourage consumers to trade in their mobile to get their hands on the technology.
Apple's iPhone proved to be a popular choice of handset for many people in 2009 but Google will be hoping to challenge the handset with its eagerly awaited smartphone.
Reports suggest that the Nexus One will be sold online at around $500 (£310) and initially be made available in the US.
The phone is being manufactured by the Taiwanese company HTC, but the hardware and software for the Nexus One has been designed by Google.
It is reported that consumers in the US will have a choice of networks to use the handset on as it will not be tied to any one company.
The phone will make use of Google's Androoid operating system.
