Mobile phones "used for everything"
Mobile phones are becoming increasingly useful to consumers due to the variety of things it is possible to do with them, one marketing expert has suggested.
Pinder Takhar, marketing manager at Dialogue Communications, stated at the recent Technology for Marketing & Advertising event in London that mobile phones will become a major channel for advertising in the future because of this trend.
"Mobile is used for everything at the minute - mobile internet, you can shop on it, you can use it as an MP3 player, you can even watch TV now," she remarked.
Her comments preceded yesterday's revelation that Orange and Barclaycard are to pioneer a new system where people will be able to use their mobile phones instead of credit cards when purchasing items in shops.
Mobiles are also being used increasingly for gaming, according to recent research from comScore, which found the market for mobile games was boosted in the US towards the end of last year as smartphone uptake rose.
