Mobile industry "well placed" to use cloud-based apps
Annual revenues from cloud-based mobile applications will have reached nearly £5.85 billion by 2014, it has been suggested.
According to a report by Juniper, the growth of the market will come from an increasing desire for collaborative services, the widespread usage of mobile broadband services and the greater use of key technological enablers such as HTML5.
Steve Reynolds, chairman of the Mobile Data Association, said: "The mobile industry in general is actually better positioned to exploit, utilise and deploy cloud-based services, probably more than the server and infrastructure side of the industry on the basis that [the mobile phone] is a connective device."
He added that a migration to cloud computing would be a natural progression to make.
According to the 2010 State of the Data Centre survey by Symantec, cloud computing is ranked behind server consolidation, storage virtualisation, data centre consolidation and data deduplication, suggesting that for some companies it may be less of a priority.
