Mobile broadband 'is a dream for many selling used phones'
Many consumers in the UK – including those selling used phones and switching to a more modern device – dream of having access to mobile broadband.
That is the view of Bob Warner, acting chair of the Communications Consumer Panel, who was responding to a report by Ofcom.
The industry regulator found that 17 per cent of British households now use mobile broadband and that seven per cent rely on it for their only access to the web.
It also suggested that O2 provides the fastest mobile broadband speeds of all the UK operators when it comes to loading a page.
While Mr Warner admitted such data is useful for businesses and some consumers, those yet to join the web revolution may feel stranded.
"Too many people still have poor or non-existent mobile coverage for voice calls and text - for them the opportunities offered by a mobile broadband connection are currently a distant dream," he explained.
