Microsoft's Nokia takeover gets US approval
It seems as though Microsoft could be one step closer to buying out Nokia's mobile phone faction.
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has approved the Window giant's plan to purchase Nokia's device and services division. It means that the billion-dollar deal is one step closer to being complete, which should be welcome news for Microsoft.
It now has to wait for approval by the EU, which is expected to come to a final decision on December 4th. However, Microsoft said that it was pleased that the US department had "cleared the deal unconditionally".
European regulators could extend the deadline date by ten working days if it feels it needs more time, meaning that the Windows giant may have to wait longer to find out the final decision.
The move would appear to make sense as the Finnish manufacturer already runs Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system on its Nokia Lumia handsets. However, it is unclear whether these devices would remain under Microsoft.
