LG says it has gone greener
LG Electronics, manufacturer of mobile phone handsets, reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 2.1 million tonnes during the first half of 2009, it has been reported.
In a move which may inspire people to step up their green efforts and recycle mobilephones, LG revealed that the bulk of the decrease - two million tonnes- was achieved by better control of energy efficiency.
The remaining 100,000 tonnes were saved by LG's efforts to improve its manufacturing processes.
However, the company has no intentions of resting on its laurels in the future, as its chief technology officer Dr. Woo Paik explained.
"We must not become restricted by pre-existing habits - we must speed up the development of new energy technologies," the representative stated.
LG is currently working on devising a Clean Development Mechanism arm in India which will help the firm secure carbon credits - an initiative introduced by the Kyoto Protocol.
