iPhone's TouchID fingerprint scanner hacked
Apple's new mobile phones have only been released for a few days but it hasn't taken hackers that long to break into the fingerprint technology in the iPhone 5S.
The scanner allows access to the handset by touching the home button but a German group Chaos Computer Club (CCC) have managed to hack it.
"A fingerprint of the phone user, photographed from a glass surface, was enough to create a fake finger that could unlock an iPhone 5s secured with Touch ID," the group wrote in a blog post on September 21st.
The post then describes how anyone can make a mould of a fingerprint by using common things that you would find around the house and allows you to access the phone without a passcode.
CCC spokesperson Frank Rieger has criticised the fingerprint technology as you cannot change it. He said: "It is plain stupid to use something that you can't change and that you leave everywhere every day as a security token."
It comes as Senator Al Franken wrote an open letter to Apple's chief executive Tim Cook saying "You can't change your fingerprints. You have only ten of them. And you leave them on everything you touch; they are definitely not a secret.".
