iOS 7 demand provokes highest traffic levels
The release of Apple's mobile phone update saw the highest levels of web traffic in the UK on Wednesday (September 18th) night.
Users were able to download iOS 7 from 6pm on Wednesday night which caused an instant surge of web traffic peaking at 9:30pm. The time delay of the spike is probably due to the number of problems people had when initially downloading the software from Apple's strained servers.
Due to the unprecedented level of interest, Apple thinks that traffic from devices running the software could overtake iOS 6 by Friday (September 20th).
BT Retail told the Guardian that its traffic levels had never been higher and said that 20 minutes after the initial launch "traffic grew over 200 gigabits per second".
Apple will have a busy weekend ahead of them as both the iPhone 5S and the cheaper iPhone 5C launch today (September 20th).
