HTC wins right to sell the One in the UK
HTC has won the right to sell its flagship smartphone, the ‘One’, after it was almost blocked from doing so due to a legal battle with Nokia over patent infringement.
Nokia had previously won a High Court case after asserting that HTC had infringed on several patents by copying the design of some of Nokia’s chips. HTC then took the case to the Court of Appeals.
The Taiwanese firm is now able to sell its One, One Mini and One Max handsets in the UK until another ruling, to be made next year. However, HTC may well have to pay a significant amount of damages to Nokia.
In a statement, Nokia said: “We look forward to the Court of Appeal confirming that the patent is valid and infringed, lifting the stay on the injunction and awarding Nokia financial compensation for HTC's infringement.”
