Google Nexus 'dipped toe in advertising market'
A Google Nexus phone could be the choice for those wanting to get rid of old handsets, as the search engine giant is looking to move into the mobile advertising market.
According to James Atkinson, editor of the mobile phone industry magazine Mobile, Google wants to compete with Apple, which has just launched its iAd service for marketers.
"Google wants a slice of that action. When Google launched the Nexus phone it was really just them wanting to find a way to protect their online advertising on the fourth screen," he suggested.
The expert added smartphones such as the Nexus allow users to experience a much more integrated advertising system and Google will want to utilise the technology to allow developers to take advantage of its Android operating system (OS).
Android captured more web consumption share in the mobile market over the last 12 months and is proving tough competition for Apple's iPhone OS, a recent Quantcast report revealed.
