Google files patent complaint against Apple
Google's Motorola Mobility unit has filed a patent infringement complaint against Apple over a number of iPhone features including the software used for its Siri voice control software.
The complaint was filed with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) and it alleged that seven of its patents had been infringed by Apple.
This had been an anticipated move as Motorola's portfolio of thousands of technology patents was the target of the $12.5 billion deal that Google struck in May.
If found guilty, the ITC could ban Apple from importing iPhones into the United States.
Apple is currently embroiled in a landmark patent case against Samsung in the US, which is expected to finish this week after being handed over to the jury for deliberations.
"We would like to settle these patent matters, but Apple’s unwillingness to work out a license leaves us little choice but to defend ourselves and our engineers’ innovations,” Motorola Mobility said.
