Everything we know about the iPhone 6
It’s no secret that the hotly anticipated iPhone 6 has been causing those rumour mills to work faster than ever but with Apple sending invites for September 9th, featuring the line ‘Wish we could say more’, there really is no doubt that the date is set for the new release.
So, what do we know about the iPhone 6 so far? Well, nothing has been confirmed. In fact, this recent invitation is the first time that Apple has nodded its head at anything, so what we have been told so far is all based on rumours. Still, there is no smoke without fire.
There will be not one, but two handsets
This has caused a lot of excitement, as it has been suggested that Apple will be breaking tradition by releasing a 4.7 inch as well as a larger 5.5 inch handset, called the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6L, respectively. Including a larger screen will possibly help to persuade those who haven’t yet converted to an iPhone, having preferred the likes of Android and Windows devices, which do have a larger screen.
Due to the larger screens, chances are that they will also have higher resolutions, with 1704 x 906 pixels and a pixel density of 416 for the smaller version of the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6L will have a pixel density of 365 ppi.
As the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6L will have much higher resolutions, the images on the larger screens will be much sharper, allowing more screen space on the smartphone.
Apple is still planning on featuring 20 icons per home screen as usual, but, there may be the potential now to add more.
Sapphires are an Apple lover’s best friend
Ok, that may be a bit misleading, but a more expensive rumour that has been flying around is that Apple is thinking of using a sapphire display for its newest release. Originally reported by the Wall Street Journal, the synthetic sapphire will make the iPhone’s screen less likely to crack and scratch, which is fantastic news for iPhone advocates.
However, as previously suggested, this will be an expensive addition to the iPhone and will likely have an affect on the price of the handset.
Variety is the spice of life
Aesthetics-wise, leaked images from NowhereElse.fr depict that Apple’s newest release will be available in three colours: silver, grey and gold, matching the colours of the iPhone 5S. This may come as a surprise given that the iPhone 5C was created in a variety of bright hues.
However, again it needs to be stressed that this is all just a rumour, so there is still hope that Apple could surprise us last minute with the visuals of the iPhone.
One thing is for sure- September 9th is a date to pencil in your diary right now.
