Brits have 28m old mobile phones lying unused at home
There are an estimated 28 million old mobile phones lying unused in drawers and cupboards across the UK, research conducted by Lookout has found.
More than one-in-ten people have four or more unwanted devices hanging around and taking up space in their home.
Mobile Choice reports that more than a quarter of people are hoarding the gadgets because they do not know what to do with them.
Many people are wary about the environmental damage caused by throwing a phone in the rubbish bin, but it seems that owners are unaware that they can recycle their old mobile phone for cash.
Eight per cent of the collectors are concerned about personal information stored on their handset, and so opt to stockpile the gadgets.
However, these people can take simple steps to ensure that personal data is fully removed from their device.
By using the factory reset function, which can usually be found under the settings menu, information is wiped from the mobile phone's memory.
