Apple threatens to sue Proview
Apple has threatened to take legal action against Proview after it claimed the Chinese company had inflamed its ongoing dispute by making misleading statements that could damage the reputation of the firm.
The US organisation sent a letter to the Chinese display vendor today (February 20th) demanding its founder Yang Rongshan to immediately cease releasing what it stated was false information.
Both of the companies have been locked in a legal battle since 2009 over the use of the name iPad, with Proview claiming it never officially sold off the rights to the name - which Apple disputes.
"It is inappropriate to release information contrary to the facts to the media, especially when such disclosures have the effect of wrongfully causing damage to Apple's reputation," the letter read.
Proview attempted to have the sales and shipments of Apple products in and out of China banned but customs officials said it would be tricky given the popularity of the items.
