Apple iPhone reaches 8.3% global mobile phone market
Apple's iPhone managed to reach 8.3 per cent of the world's total mobile phone market in the fourth quarter of 2011, which helps to illustrate further the great year that the company had.
The figures suggest that more and more people are recycling their mobile phones to get their hands on iPhones as the 8.3 per cent is more than double the share for the same period last year.
Apple managed to sell 37 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of 2011, taking the total handsets sold throughout the year to 93 million shipped worldwide, which means the company had a six per cent share of the world market, according to Apple Insider.
"Apple's growth was fuelled by intense demand for its refreshed iPhone 4S, as well as the availability of three generations of iPhones at a variety of price points at operators like AT&T," Strategy Analytics associate director Alex Spektor commented.
Figures released by Reuters last week suggested that Apple handsets have taken over Android as the leading smartphone provider.
