Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini details revealed
Korean mobile phone giant Samsung has seen some of the details of its upcoming new smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini, which will be the latest in its popular range of scaled down handsets, leaked to the public.
Competition in this marketplace has become ever more fierce in the last couple of years. When Samsung first brought out the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini in 2012, it was one of the only firms offering such devices.
Since then, however, other companies have started to make up ground, and Sony now offers smaller versions of its flagship Xperia range, while Apple added its first budget model in 2013 with the release of the Apple iPhone 5C.
And now on the eve of the release of the Korean firm's new flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S5, which should be with customers tomorrow (April 11th), some of the speculation about the mini version has started to surface.
Many believe that one of the key aspects of the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will be the fact that it does not drastically downgrade the specifications offered to customers of the full-sized alternatives, which may lead to many owners of older models looking to trade in their phones to take advantage.
This is likely to be a reaction to the arrival of the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact this year, which was granted almost the same specifications as its larger sibling - the same processor, RAM, GPU and 20.7MP camera were all packed into the smaller device.
However, no details have yet been released about the specs of the new Samsung version at the current time.
In terms of release dates and prices, it is expected that the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will hit stores in early summer, with most expecting to see it come to the British shores in June 2014.
Prices have also not yet been confirmed, but if it is indeed afforded similar specs to the S5, then the phone is likely to be priced at around the £350 to £400 mark.
