Mobile recycling sees consumers given £40m
More than £40 million has been paid out to consumers by Mazuma Mmobile since its launch in 2006.
The figure comes in the run-up to the company's busiest period of the year - after Christmas.
Charlo Carabott, managing director of Mazuma Mobile, said that the company is thrilled to have reached the milestone in what has been a tough year in the wider economy and that there is "a growing awareness that there is genuine value in mobile phones that used to just sit at the back of a drawer".
He added that in the new year the company anticipates receiving 200,000 old mobile phones from people who have received a new handset for Christmas.
Mobile recycling could leave consumers with extra cash to spend on new gadgets as well as helping those in need, suggests the Phoenix. It recently highlighted the diverse benefits that can be generated when a handset is sent for recycling.
