Expert: Even more should consider mobile recycling
The number of people who are now recycling mobile phones is reassuring but more needs to be done to encourage this, it has been advised.
A spokesman for Mazuma praised the many people across the UK that are trading in their used handsets for cash but has called upon others who may have unwanted models sitting around unused.
Charlo Carabott, managing director of the mobile recycling group, said recent figures which show 24 per cent of people would be happier sending their gadget to an online recycler than using an auction portal was a good sign.
"Although selling phones on sites such as eBay can sometimes fetch a higher value we find, more often then not that, our customers experience waste a lot of time and get a lot of added hassle for the extra few pounds," he added.
He added that one popular model at the moment is the Apple iPhone 3G
, as many people are trading in their second-generation version to pay for one.
The Apple iPhone 3G
is available on contract or pay-as-you-go through O2.
