Expert advises on reasons for mobile recycling
Consumers have been told that recycling mobile phones and other unused electricals makes perfect sense.
In an article posted on the PCQuest website this week, Rakesh Sharma explained that modern equipment can rapidly become obsolete due the rate at which new technology emerges.
However, he added this often leads to the creation of unnecessary "e-waste", but this can be avoided by taking advantage of the various recycling programs that exist - including those for used mobile phones.
Mr Sharma noted e-waste can be particularly hazardous due to toxic substances such as lead, cadmium, mercury and plastics.
"All of these elements are toxic and some are radioactive in nature, which make them more dangerous for us," he concluded.
Of course, those looking to avoid sending their old devices to landfill can also expect to generate cash for mobile phones in most cases - by sending them off to companies such as Mazuma.
