Mobile users told Wi-Fi could save them money
Holidaymakers looking to save money on mobile phone bills while abroad should try to take advantage of widely available Wi-Fi internet access, it has been recommended.
According to TechRadar, utilising Wi-Fi networks in local cafes, particularly if they are free, should be near the top of the agenda for travellers seeking to cut down on mobile costs.
"It's almost certainly cheaper than paying data roaming costs for your laptop and dongle, iPhone or other Wi-Fi enabled handset," the website stated.
Wi-Fi was listed as one of ten steps that consumers can take to save money while using their mobiles away from home.
Other recommendations included purchasing a local sim - which it dubbed simply "common sense" - and signing up to Skype.
Consumers can save money on their mobile phones at home too by using price comparison websites and negotiating with networks, according to MoneySavingExpert.com.
Wanting to use the handset while abroad should not be factored into the initial phone purchasing decision process, outside of checking whether the handset is suitable, the website states.
