The new year is undoubtedly the perfect time to look to the future and think about what the next 12 months will bring. Regardless of what your personal goals and wishes are, there is one thing that we can be certain about – 2015 is going to be a very exciting one when it comes to mobile phones.
From the follow-up to the immensely successful iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, to Samsung’s newest offerings, we really are going to be spoiled for choice (although it’s important to add that the majority of what we know come from rumours and speculations, so it must all be taken with a pinch of salt).
With this in mind, we have a few highlights that we think will be making the headlines over the next year.
We thought it best to start with this given just how popular the iPhone 6 and iPhone Plus were in 2014. In fact, rumours began to surface about what 2015 would bring from Apple within weeks of their release.
Firstly, there are contradicting murmurings about what the device will actually be called, with some suggesting it will follow in the footsteps of the iPhone 5 and be the iPhone 6S, while others believe that Apple will just skip straight ahead to the iPhone 7.
As we were somewhat surprised that after a lot of speculation the iPhone 6 did not come with a sapphire screen, there is every chance that the iPhone 6S/7 will come with the feature. However, if this does happen it may mean pushing the price of the handset up.
When it comes to the release date, we predict that we will be looking to September again, which means that the rumour mill is likely to be very busy over the next nine months.
Samsung Galaxy S6
While we may be waiting a while for the latest iPhone, it is looking like Samsung’s newest handset will be hitting the shelves a lot sooner. As the South Korean company has announced its latest offerings during the Mobile World Congress events in Barcelona in the past, the chances are that we will learn about the Samsung Galaxy S6 in this year’s event which will take place, as per, in March.
One feature which we have heard being mentioned is that of a curved screen, which Samsung is supposedly testing amongst others. Whether or not the final design will feature this remains to be seen, but it is an exciting rumour nonetheless.
It is also looking likely that the Android Lollipop update will be making its way into the handset also!
Sony Xperia Z4
We will be seeing the Sony Xperia Z4 even sooner than the Samsung Galaxy S6 if the murmurings of a January release during the CES event in Las Vegas ring true.
While nothing has been confirmed by Sony itself, the handset has already made the headlines as it was reportedly leaked during the Sony hacking incident as the smartphone is rumoured to be one of the devices suggested for the upcoming James Bond film.
It is believed that the specs will include a 5.5 inch Quad HD screen, as well as a 2.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor with 4GB of RAM.
