Vodafone UK customers will not have to pay any additional roaming charges while on holiday in Europe between June 1st and August 30th.
The mobile phone network revealed yesterday (May 14th) that people visiting any of more than 35 countries on the continent will be able to make calls and send text and picture messages for the same price as back home.
Ian Shephard, Vodafone UK’s consumer director, said it is no coincidence that his company has launched the scheme to run alongside the peak holiday period.
"This is well-timed and is happening exactly at the time when people choose to go on holiday – that is deliberate," he remarked.
In addition to the summer scheme, Vodafone is also reducing the cost of mobile calls to foreign countries from the UK for customers on its pay-as-you-go Simply tariff. The price cut comes into force from today.
