The UK is the leading European country in terms of smart mobile phone usage among the population.
According to the latest research conducted by comScore, 52.6 per cent of all UK mobile phone consumers use a smartphone, while Germany’s penetration was the lowest of the five nations included at 38.2 per cent.
Spain and Italy’s figures both stood in the 40th percentile, while Spain was the closest rival to the UK with 52.5 per cent.
The study showed that nearly 37 per cent of smartphone users in the five nations reported accessing news sites via an app or browser in January 2012, which represented a 74 per cent increase in the last year.
This should come as no surprise as the recent State of the news media report found that smartphones have enhanced the appeal of traditional news sites.
comScore’s research also found that the UK leads the way in terms of mobile app usage when compared with the other countries.
