The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is an exciting mobile phone, which many people can't wait to get their hands on.

Along with its Android operating system, the handset brings a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 20.7-megapixel camera from its larger family member – the Xperia Z1.

All of it comes with a competitive price of less than £450, making it more affordable than the iPhone 5C, Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and HTC One Mini,

To get the handset from Sony itself, the Xperia Z1 Compact will cost you £449 to pre-order it SIM-free.

Carphone Warehouse will offer the smartphone but the retailer hasn't started accepting pre-orders or announced prices. However, Phones 4U has and will give you a free Sony wireless speaker too.

EE, Vodafone, T-Mobile and Orange are all stocking the Sony Xperia and it is free on a two-year contract. O2, the first to confirm it would be selling the device, has started showing the smartphone on its website.

Sony has released a slimmed-down version of its Xperia Z1 mobile phone, to appeal to customers that want all the power but in a smaller package.

It brings all the good bits from the original handset including the quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 20.7-megapixel camera. The smartphone will be available for a competitive price of £450 without any contract, meaning it is cheaper than Apple's budget-friendly iPhone 5C.

Although not all information has been published about who will be stocking the device and which markets it will head to, a number of UK retailers have made their intentions known.

Fans can expect to see the smartphone arriving on their shelves at some point next month, though a precise date hasn't been made clear.

O2 confirmed on Twitter that it will be stocking the device, but no word was given on what tariffs it will offer or a release date.
