The introduction of smart mobile phones could encourage people to shop online more, recent expert comments may suggest.
The latest Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index revealed that UK consumers spent £5.3 billion online in November and this figure could potentially increase in future with smartphone technology.
Chris Russell, director of eDigitalResearch, said: "The big change will be consumer behaviour, with the introduction of new smart mobile devices and applications bringing more empowerment to the shopper – online and offline."
According Retail Decisions, a member of the IMRG, December 7th was the biggest UK online shopping day of 2009 with £1.4 million being spent online at 13:43 GMT in just one minute.
