Gamblers who love to use their phone to place bets could be at the front of the queue when it comes to selling mobiles and switching to devices with web access.
Betfair has announced that a surge in betting through mobiles helped it record a profit in the first half of the year.
The company said the number of wagers places in this way doubled to 16 million, allowing it to enjoy a 36 per cent hike in profit to £42.4 million for the six months to October 31st.
In November, 41 per cent of customers used a mobile to have a bet with the firm.
Betfair's online portal as a whole reported a rise in revenue, with a seven per cent increase in the value of wagers over the six months reported.
Another growing trend among technology users is online shopping, with Ofcom this week revealing Britons are increasingly buying goods via mobiles, laptops and PCs.
