A US journalist has been targeted by hackers, who managed to misappropriate his iCloud account by resetting his passwords.
The malicious attack erased everything from tech writer Mat Honan's iPad, iPhone and Macbook.
Mr Honan's Gmail and Twitter accounts were also compromised and he has had to enlist both Google and Apple to retrieve his email and social media profiles, and their content.
Writing on his Emptypage blog, Mr Honan said: "The big steps now are regaining access to my Macbook and Google."
He also offered a bit of advice on securing email and social media accounts on mobile phones, by adhering to two-factor authentification.
Gmail offers this as an option to its users. As well as having a normal, password-based login, Google will text an authentification code to your mobile device that must also be inputted.
This means that a hacker must have access to your smartphone if they want to attempt a hack on your Gmail account from a PC or other device.
