A growing number of consumers could opt to sell mobile phones and invest in a brand new hi-tech device in order to complete their Christmas shopping.
New statistics from Sage Pay show online shopping is on the up, with more people turning to computers, mobiles and tablets to buy goods than ever before.
It noted it dealt with a record-breaking number of transactions on the recent Cyber Monday, which is said to be the busiest shopping day of the year.
Year-on-year growth of 17 per cent was reported, while the average spend per person grew to £91, up £3 on 2010.
"With only a couple of weekends to go before Christmas, we're expecting to break records all the way up to Christmas Eve," said Simon Black, managing director at the online payments firm.
Figures from comScore recently showed online shopping has taken off in the US this year, with last week witnessing three days where revenue topped $1 billion (£639 million).
