Consumers have the chance to sell a mobile now and put the money towards a new model, which can be used to complete their Christmas shopping.

Analysys Mason's Steve Hilton has spoken on the subject, explaining there are benefits to both user and provider.

He said more people using mobiles to shop online provides a "real boon" to the technology market intelligence sector.

"At the point of purchase or even during the search process marketers, in theory, have access to geo-location, time-of-day and other metrics. This can allow them to refine their messaging," Mr Hilton stated.

On the other hand, consumers have the opportunity to access great deals from any location they wish.

Sage Pay this week revealed it dealt with 17 per cent more transactions involving mobile users on the recent Cyber Monday in 2011 than it did on the same day – dubbed the busiest online shopping day of the year – in 2010.
