Latest smartphone sales data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech have shown that Samsung is the top selling mobile phone brand across Europe.
Its 45 per cent share of the market was buoyed by the launch of the Galaxy S3.
The Korean firm's success has hugely benefited Google's Android operating system, with its share in the big five countries of Europe standing at 65.7 per cent in July 2012 – a year-on-year increase of 23 per cent.
Its Galaxy S3 was highly anticipated and sales of the device have not disappointed as millions of people were forced to wait weeks before getting their hands on the phone due to popular demand.
Global consumer insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech Dominic Sunnebo said it is easy for some people to focus on sales of the S2 and S3 and forget about overall mobile phone shipments.
"As a result it now makes up five out of the top ten best selling smartphones in Great Britain," he continued.
