Good news for mobile phone owners with a more active lifestyle, as according to Korean newspaper ETNews the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be water and dust resistant.
Samsung has already released mobile phones with similar weatherproofing. The Galaxy S4 Active – released shortly after the Galaxy S4 – was also water and dust resistant, and there are rumours that there will be a similar edition of the Galaxy Note 3.
However, this will be Samsung’s first smartphone to include weatherproofing as part of the standard model. It is thought that Samsung will end the Active line as a result of this.
Samsung is not the first company to try this, as Sony already features weatherproofing with several of its handsets. The Xperia Z, Z1 and Z Ultra are all dust resistant, and can be submerged in up to a metre of water safely, with no major problems.
This seems to be another step towards weatherproofing being included as standard with all major smartphones.
