Knowsley residents have been advised to help the environment during Recycle Week by sending old mobile phones away to be reused.
The initiative comes to an end on June 27th and Knowsley Council has enlisted the help of children from a local school to promote the importance of sending unwanted electronic equipment such as mobile phones to be recycled.
“Recycle Week is the perfect opportunity to clear out any old small electricals and give them a chance to become something else,” explained cabinet member for neighbourhood delivery Graham Morgan.
There are five recycling points located around Merseyside and residents who hand in unwanted items will have a chance to win prizes.
Those who wish to recycle old mobile phones may also want to make use of the service offered by Mazuma, which offers cash for used handsets.
Research by Recycle Now shows 41 per cent of people put off recycling items in the hope they will be useful one day, while 23 per cent opt to keep them due to their perceived value.
