People who love to shop online might find that selling a mobile and replacing it with one of the latest smartphones is a good move.
That is because such devices are sure to offer internet access, which can be used to visit virtual stores.
New research by the Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) has shown that the proportion of e-sales made via mobile between the start of 2010 and the second quarter of 2011-12 rose from 0.4 per cent to 3.3 per cent.
This is said to be down to the improving quality of mobile retail sites and increasing confidence in the channel.
David Smith, chief marketing and communications officer at IMRG, said: “With some retailers having up to 12 per cent of their traffic coming through [mobiles], its popularity among consumers is clear.”
Gartner recently predicted that 50 per cent of e-sales will be made via mobiles and social media by 2015.
