It could be bad news for Samsung as President Barack Obama has refused to veto a ban, which could stop some of the company’s mobile phones being brought into the US.
The International Trade Commission (ITC) banned Samsung from importing certain devices into the US as they infringed on Apple’s patents. However, Obama and his White House have been given 60 days to veto the decision, though it appears they won’t.
Devices, which will be included in the ban, include the Samsung Galaxy S4 G, as well as number of its tablets.
It appears as though Obama could be playing favourites, as when American company Apple was in the same situation in August, the president took the unusual move of vetoing the ban.
“After carefully weighing policy considerations, including the impact on consumers and competition, advice from agencies, and information from interested parties, I have decided to allow [the ban to go ahead],” said US trade representative Michael Froman in a statement
However, it’s unlikely that it will affect Samsung too much, and it could even be prevented through the US appeals court.
